Kitchen appliances have become a crucial part of our daily lives. Most of us cannot imagine a life without appliances such as a mixer grinder, oven, juicer, toaster or sandwich maker. Choosing the right appliances is important for enabling ease of cooking.

Many people get confused while choosing between similar appliances like a mixer grinder and food processor, a toaster and sandwich maker, an OTG and microwave oven. In this article, let’s understand the differences between a bread toaster and a sandwich maker and the better appliance to choose out of the two.

Bread Toasters and Sandwich Makers

Bread toasters and sandwich makers are popular kitchen appliances used for preparing snacks and breakfast. Though the structural design is different for each of these appliances, both these can crispen bread. However, bread toasters and sandwich makers are not only structurally different but also functionally different. Continue reading to understand the key differences between these two appliances.

Differences Between a Bread Toaster and a Sandwich Maker

The main difference between the two appliances is in terms of functionality and versatility. A bread toaster uses radiant heat and can brown bread slices as per the desired level of crispiness and colour. It can be used for preparing only bread toasts and hence it is not as flexible as sandwich makers. A sandwich maker, on the other hand, relies on ceramic plates for cooking different kinds of foods, including a variety of sandwiches, grilled delicacies, waffles, pancakes and more, so it is considered to be more versatile.

As for the way in which these appliances operate, a toaster has a compact design that lets you insert the bread slices into slots on top. Then, you need to press down a lever given on the side to activate the heating element after choosing the level of browning needed. That’s it! Once done, the toasted bread slices will pop out automatically.

For using a sandwich maker, you have to prepare the sandwiches with your desired fillings between 2-3 slices of bread. Then, you can place these on the cooking plates of a preheated sandwich maker and close the lid down. Once cooked, the appliance will turn off automatically.

Which Is Better? A Sandwich Maker or A Toaster

The better appliance out of the two depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you are looking for an appliance for only toasting bread, then a toaster will suffice your needs. On the other hand, if you want a multipurpose appliance that can help you make sandwiches, toasts, grilled foods, waffles, pancakes and more, a sandwich maker or a sandwich griller is a better choice. So, evaluate your needs and then make a wise choice.

If possible, you can consider investing in both these appliances as both are very useful in their own ways. Moreover, both appliances are reasonably priced, so you will not have to break your bank even if you have to buy both. You can own both a bread toaster and a sandwich maker by investing less than INR 5K. If you buy a bread cum dough maker as well, you can even make fresh bread at home and prepare healthy breakfast or snacks.
