Even though car insurance rates are decreasing, some cars are still significantly less expensive to insure than others. To help you save money, we report on which cars we have found to be the cheapest to insure.
Insurance for impounded cars is not cheap. Any car insurance is inconvenient for drivers because it adds to monthly expenses, but it is required by law. Whether you have many years of no claims bonus and a wealth of driving experience, or you are a newly licensed driver, your car insurance premium is an important factor in your monthly outgoings. Knowing which types of cars are the cheapest to insure could help you save money on your insurance premiums.
Looking for a cheaper car insurance deal is a good way to save money, but the ideal way to save a lot of money on your car insurance is to buy your next vehicle from the list of the cheapest cars to insure in the UK. As a result, even if insurance premiums begin to rise, you will still be paying at the low end of the scale.
Drivers who have gone years without having to make a claim on their car insurance reap the benefits when it comes to their insurance premiums. But what if you’ve lost your No Claims Bonus because you made an ‘at fault’ claim, or if you’ve been an additional driver on someone else’s policy and are not able to build up any No Claims Bonus in your own name?
If you lose your No Claim Bonus, your insurance premium can increase, especially if you’re a young driver. This may appear especially unfair if the accident was caused by a factor such as weather – for example, if your car skidded on a wet road while driving at the speed limit. If the other driver was at fault but was not insured, you may lose your no-claims discount, and the same is true if your car is vandalized. Having a driving conviction only complicates matters.
Insurance for impounded cars
Have you had your car impounded because you were driving without insurance? To get your car released from the police compound, you’ll need impounded car insurance. Many insurers refuse to cover impounded vehicles or inflate their insurance quotes to make them prohibitively expensive. We can help you find low-cost insurance to get your vehicle out of the compound quickly and affordably.
We will put you in touch with our insurer partners, who can offer you a 30-day short-term policy just to get your car released, or a full 12-month policy, so you can arrange your annual cover in just a few minutes.

Proof of ID
You must demonstrate that you are who you claim to be. A valid photo ID, such as your driver’s license or passport, is required. A student or work ID will not be accepted.
Ownership documentation
You must show that you are the vehicle’s registered keeper. The full vehicle registration document (V5C) and matching proof of address can satisfy this requirement.
A valid MOT
A valid MOT certificate is also required.
How much time do you have to reclaim an impounded car?
It is important to act quickly because you will most likely be charged a fee for each day your car is impounded in addition to the overall release fee. If you do not reclaim your impounded vehicle or provide satisfactory documentation within 14 days, it may be crushed or scrapped.
What if I’m not the legal keeper?
Typically, the official registered owner of the car must attend in person to prove ownership and pay the charges. The only exceptions are if you can show that you are out of the country or have a compelling medical or compassionate circumstance that prevents you from personally being present.
